Greyhounds Unlimited is offering this wonderful program for you to be able to show your support for the myriad of expenses associated with the Greyhound rescue such as veterinary, housing, general rehabilitation costs and ultimately finding a loving permanent home for them. Drawing will be held on January 21, 2012 at the Barnes & Noble Meet and Greet in Plano, TX. You do not have to be present to win.

MORE ABOUT THE ART
The painting is an original oil on canvas 30" by 40", donated by artist, Denise Saleh, as this year's Angel Raffle. It is a full color Greyhound standing in the surf, in a rectangular area, surrounded by heavy texture featuring hints of beach objects found in the texture. Denise was inspired by a recent trip to the coast with her Greyhound and this poem just completed her idea.
This contented Greyhound basks in the setting sun on the Texas Gulf coast. As the poem suggests, we give our Greyhounds a home, "One Starfish at a Time".
**** THE STARFISH POEM ****
Once upon a time there was a wise man who used to go to the ocean o do his writing.
He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work.
One day he was walking along the shore.
As he looked down the beach, he saw a human figure moving like a dancer.
He smiled to himself to think of someone who would dance to the day.
So he began to walk faster to catch up.
As he got closer, he saw that it was a young man and the young man wasn't dancing,
but instead he was reaching down to the shore, picking up something
and very gently throwing it into the ocean.
As he got closer he called out, "Good morning! What are you doing?"
The young man paused, looked up and replied, "Throwing starfish in the ocean."
"I guess I should have asked, why are you throwing starfish in the ocean?"
"The sun is up and the tide is going out. And if I don't throw them in they'll die."
"But, young man, don't you realize that there are miles and miles of beach and starfish all along it.
You can't possibly make a difference!" The young man listened politely.
Then bent down, picked up another starfish and threw it into the sea, past the breaking waves and said-
"It made a difference for that one."

As a celebration of the FWACC 28 and specifically the 8 Greyhounds taken in by Greyhounds Unlimited, the Reunion of the GU 8, a special event on Sunday September 19, 2010 at the Arbor Hills Nature Preserve in Plano Texas. In commemoration of the FWACC Rescue and the Reunion, Greyhounds Unlimited commissioned a special design to be applied to a jersey style t-shirt and ¾ length sleeve t-shirt.
 Paw in Hand T-Shirt
This special t-shirt was designed and featured for Greyhounds Unlimited 2010 Greyfest fundraising event. Surronding the Paw Print on the front are the words: Save An Athlete Adopt A Greyhound. On the back of the t-shirt is a paw print nested inside of a hand print with the following words on the fingers: One by one until there are none ... that will be the sweetest day. The Original Artwork was donated by local tatoo flash designer Stormy Jones.
GU and Greytwear have teamed up to help the hounds in GU's care. Greytwear generously agreed to donate to GU 30% of all Greytwear sales from the items listed in GU's Online Store. Stop...Shop...Save...Save lives that is!!
 "Treasured Greyhounds"

The artist commissioned 10 prints to be reproduced from the original "Treasured Greyhounds" painting and each is signed and numbered. Some have already been purchased but you can still get yours for only $210. The prints are a giclee (an elegant, state-of-the-art) reproduction. The reproduction print is finished by the artist applying a hand embellishment with gold leaf. The image size is 24x24" and it is done on archival quality paper. This piece comments on the lives of Greyhounds, once owned by royalty, to athletes on modern day race tracks. They can be both, treasured or discarded in today's world.
