Maxine

Bio

Our preliminary bio on Maxine said she appears to be a Scottish Deerhound Greyhound cross. However, per a DNA test through Wisdom Panel, she came back as a 'Greyhound Mix', with Bernese Mountain as the highest scoring breed on the side with the mix. That would explain her size, her wavy coat, and her watching/guarding tendencies which are not traits of the Greyhound breed. However, like a Greyhound, Maxine loves to play hard and then snooze even harder.

She's still puppyish; just turned one year old on 2/28/14. She is bigger than an average greyhound, still growing, weighed 83 pounds on 2/2/14, and stands 30" tall at the shoulders.

Maxine came to GU by way of a family who adopted her as an 8-week old puppy, then later discovered their son is allergic to dogs. She has been in her GU foster home since 11/17/13; she's sweet, snuggly, kissy, and lovable, and gets more so every day. She gets along nicely with the other dogs in her foster home, especially the ones willing to play with her. She figured out the pet door quickly, and does all her business outdoors. She sits and waits before being served her meals, and is learning to walk nicely on a loose leash and to wait at doorways. She loads readily into the car, and she crates well. Maxine is very trainable, eager to please, food and praise motivated.

After spending 5 days in a cat-testing home, it was determined that Maxine is best suited for a home with no cats, no small dogs, and no old dogs – due to her incessant playful pouncing and size. She is also not a good candidate for an apartment.

She’d love to meet you at an upcoming Meet & Greet!
